France favourites for Euro 2020 success after victory in Russia – but England not far behind

FRANCE followed up their 1998 World Cup success with a win in the European Championships two years later and they are favourites to do so again after Sunday’s win in Russia.

The French won football’s biggest game to put another star on their shirts and are now 5/1 favourites with Betway to win Euro 2020.

That expanded tournament will end at Wembley and England can be backed at 8/1, a price that will appeal to those that think the Three Lions’ achievements in Russia were anything other than a bunch of nice guys, led by an even nicer guy and with an easy draw.

Germany and Spain will be looking to bounce back from a shocking World Cup and now have two years to get their houses in order. They are both 6/1.
Belgium are just a point bigger at 7/1 and will no doubt have their backers due to their third place finish in Russia.
Runners-up Croatia might struggle to reinvigorate their squad due to potential retirements and their average age might put people off backing them at 20/1.

Holders Portugal are 16/1 to repeat their win from 2016 in France, in what could be Cristiano Ronaldo’s international swansong.

Those with World Cup withdrawal symptoms have the longest post-war wait between tournaments as Qatar’s hosting of the next tournament means scheduling in winter.
So with four-and-a-half years to wait a lot could change in the potential squads on show.
A French victory in Russia was the fourth straight success for Europe, yet it’s actually Brazil topping the Betway market for 2022 success at 11/2.

Holders France are joint-second favourites at 7/1 with Germany.

Gareth Southgate may or may not be in charge of England for their desert adventure, assuming they qualify, and for them to end 56 years of hurt is offered at 14/1.
Italy and Netherlands missed out on the fun in Russia and will be chomping at the bit to progress to the finals stage in Qatar.
The Italians are 16/1 and the Dutch are 25/1 to lift the trophy.
